Day One in Alaska.

The team made lots of progress on Wednesday, the first day of work. There are many projects under way simultaneously...a Gazebo is being built from scratch, an existing outdoor chapel needs leveled in the ever shifting permafrost, baseboard is being installed in some living quarters, cedar siding is being power washed and prepared to be stained, doors are being installed and we are just getting started. The weather is cooperating for the most part. Highs in the mid 60's, lows in the mid 50's with intermittent morning rain and mist. I was helping power wash yesterday morning so the mist may have been man made:-).

Now it is Thursday morning and it is definitely raining out. Ed from Mount Gilead started our day with devotions and a hymn on his harmonica. Now people with rain coats are going ahead with some of the outdoor projects and others have moved indoors to work on interior projects in the gym and living quarters until the rain stops. Here are some pictures from the first day of work. As I type the sun is starting to break through the clouds to reveal the snow caps on the mountains in the distance. So I will head out shortly to take more pictures of people and scenery and share them with you soon.
